Rigo-Cheneau TLSO Brace
The Rigo-Cheneau (pronounced REE-go sheh-NO) brace is a highly customized, three-dimensional (3D) corrective brace that is widely used in Europe and increasingly in North America.
- Custom-Made: Each brace is unique, custom-made from a 3D scan or cast of the patient’s torso to ensure an exact fit for their specific curve pattern.
- Three-Dimensional Correction: Unlike some traditional braces that primarily focus on side-to-side (frontal plane) correction, the Rigo-Cheneau brace addresses all three dimensions of scoliosis, including the rotational component of the spine.
- Pressure and Relief Areas: It works by applying targeted pressure on specific areas of the body to guide the spine toward a more natural alignment, while leaving open “relief” areas for the body to expand into during movement and breathing.
- Comfort and Mobility: The design principles aim to maximize curve correction while allowing for more comfort and mobility compared to some older, more restrictive brace types.
-
- Integrated Therapy: It is often used in conjunction with a specialized physical therapy method known as the Schroth Method, which focuses on specific exercises and breathing techniques to de-rotate, elongate, and stabilize the spine.
- Anterior Opening: The Rigo-Cheneau brace typically features an anterior (front) opening, which makes it easier for patients to put on and take off by themselves.
This brace system is a conceptual approach to treatment, guided by a specific classification system developed by Dr. Manuel Rigo and influenced by the work of Dr. Jacques Cheneau.
